New provisions for slip resistance standards deferred until 2015

The Building Code of Australia 2014 includes a minimum standard for slip resistance of stairway surfaces. This requires treads or nosing on treads to comply with a slip resistance classification, when tested to Australian Standard AS 4586-2013 Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials.

The introduction of this provision in Victoria has been deferred until 1 May 2015 to enable the industry to undertake the measures required to meet the provisions of the BCA.

For more information about the new provisions and what this means for the industry, refer to the BCA 2014 slip resistance provisions information sheet.
