Architects, Designers and Builders specify Victorian ash for its incredible strength, straightness and durability. It is for these reasons why Victorian Ash is the perfect timber for large scale projects like this one.
Newhaven College on Phillip Island was the creation of architectural extraordinaires McIldowiePartners – ‘a medium sized architectural and interior design practice with extensive history and experience in a wide range of education, hospitality, corporate and commercial projects’.
McIldowie Partners incorporated the rural and coastal location into the initial design by “enclosing classrooms and multipurpose spaces inside wide verandahs, allowing for sun shading and access between rooms protected from the sometimes harsh environment”.
In partnership with VicBeam, McIldowie Partners created GL18 laminated beams from our SUPASPAN F17 timber for the internal auditorium. Spanning over 20 metres, the beams were laminated to be 600 x 220 in size.
VicBeam are a leader in producing high quality timber engineered beams for projects across Australia. ‘At times we are called upon to provide uniquely designed laminated beams such as complex curves and fabricated components’ as stated on the VicBeam website.
Hardwood glulam products are becoming increasingly popular due to the fact that they are strong, easy to fabricate and add to the design aesthetic of a space by keeping them exposed.
