Alpine Oak is truly the best of both worlds – it is both a high quality hardwood timber and an even moreaffordable option for bench tops, stairs and flooring. Alpine Oak is perfect for the builder looking to maximise character of grain, yield from our resource and quick installation.

The combination of Alpine Oak’s manybenefits made it an easychoicefor a large project like this one. The brief was to build and execute 287 townhouses in Port Melbourne – all being either 3 or 4 storeys high. Each town house required a natural transition from floor to floor, which is why open stairs were chosen for the upper areas. High profile Melbourne builders, Canny have been designing and building homes across Melbourne for over 20 years, which made them the perfect fit for this large project. Their team of over 50 professionals ensures only the best service and finish, ‘we only use the latest and highest quality materials and building systems, fittings, fixtures and equipment’.

Assigned the mammoth job of installing all 667 staircases was leading staircase manufacturers Eric Jones who have a plethora of experience, acommitment to quality and theability to service major projects like this one. Daniel from Eric Jones further explains “having used Alpine Oak stairs before meant it was an easy decision because this product is readily available, adds great character and is suitably priced”. Alexandra from Canny Builder adds “we chose Alpine Oak because it’s a robust product that performs extremely well, the timber grain is consistent and it looks great overall”.

Cost is a major factor when it comes to any mass construction in Australia. Both Canny and Eric Jones found Alpine Oak to be the most cost effective in terms of quality and price. “Compared to other solid timber products, it’s a very cost effective option for large scale projects, as we installed 667 staircases” explained Alexandra at Canny.

Alpine Oak is not only character-filled and strong, it also is available in a range of sizes to suit different design requirements. Daniel Auld from Eric Jones added “we have used Alpine Oak on a couple of small jobs and liked it’s characteristics so we recommended it for this job – it was readily available in the larger sizes required for the open stairs and long stringers”.

Alpine Oak stairs beautifully champions the natural characteristics of timber whilst being practical to allow for a speedy installation. The laminated stair material is available in the following sizes; 190×19, 285×33 and 285×43 in 5.4m lengths. For more information visit the Alpine Oak webpage or click here to contact us.
