IRON ASH completes ‘THE BARN’ in Mt Martha

Boasting some of Victoria’s most picturesque beaches, rocky cliffs, blue waters and a quiet seaside lifestyle is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s more desirable places to call home. Mt Martha is a town known for big hills and winding streets lined with luxurious homes showcasing incredible views of the bay. It’s no wonder there’s so much development on the go. This original 1930’s ‘English revival weatherboard’ beach house is tucked away at the bottom of those hills on a rear block – some 200m from Mt Martha’s ‘South Beach’.

Known as ‘The Barn’, this large extension project was completed by quality local builder – Mode Projects. The brief was to take the best from the traditional home and add a contemporary ‘living space, new kitchen with butler’s pantry and fully refurbished pool and outdoor entertaining area’. By revitalising and rationalising the space, this home transformed to account to modern family needs while preserving the classic detail and existing charm.

Designed by Sabrosa Design and colour schemes by Sisalla Interior Designs, the home was designed to incorporate natural materials that will grey off over time and enhance the blue hues from the pool with the greens of the garden. IronAsh hardwood decking, fence battens, pergola and F17 joists were specified due to the elegant way the hardwood greys off in the weather but doesn’t decay. The innovative new hardwood range appealed to Bruce (from Mode) because the hardwood is dense enough to wear well, has a 25 year guarantee and was an affordably priced, blonde timber. What makes IronAsh so unique is the innovative new technology that dramatically transforms Australia’s most popular hardwood into a very durable, external timber. Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) Marketing Manager, Daniel Wright, explains that “we know the IronAsh treatment range was going to be exceptional for the local building industry because the independent test results were reporting high performance indicators. Given that the products had only been commercially available for a short period of time, we were keen to see how the industry accepted it. I am very proud to say that accelerated age and paint tests using IronAsh are coming in with even better results than we had expected”.
